Girl Rising sparks a change in Dipolog
In celebration of the International Women’s month celebration, DMC College Foundation and the Samahan ng mga Pilipina para sa Reporma at Kaunlaran (SPARK!) gathered almost 400 high school and college students for the 1st Mindanao screening of the highly-acclaimed documentary film ‘Girl Rising’ at the DMC Auditorium last March 11, 2014.
‘Girl Rising’ is a groundbreaking feature film that spotlights the stories of nine unforgettable girls born into unforgiving circumstances. The film captures their dreams, their voices and their remarkable lives. It is also a movement dedicated to empowering and achieving educational equity for girls around the world.
Mr. Darren Gonzales of SPARK! Philippines also presented to the audience the Spark a Change Project which would allow Dipolog students to organize projects to help other young girls in the community.
“Girl Rising is a moving film. Our students realized that they are lucky enough to be in school right now. They are encouraged to take their studies seriously and be engage in activities that would help other young girls to be protected and be in school.”, Kristine Carl Bartonico, DMC College Guidance Counselor.
The participants of the said activities are students coming from the Zamboanga del Norte National High School, Dapitan City National High School, Rizal Memorial Institute and DMC College Foundation, Inc.
