University Business Clinics inspires Dipolognons
Magnegosyo na ta! (Let’s establish a business!)
These words were uttered by some of the students after having participated in the 1st Mindanao session of the University Business Clinics (UBC) at Function Hall of the DMC College Foundation, Inc., Dipolog City Zamboanga del Norte on November 13, 2013.
UBC aims to encourage and equip young people to engage in entrepreneurship. In full house attendance during the said activity are DMC students and faculty members from the School of Business and Accountancy, School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management, College of Computer Studies and School of Teacher Education.
“I believe that the students, regardless of their course should possess the drive to put up their own business in the future. Establishing good businesses in the Zamboanga del Norte is the only way for the province to move forward.” said Ryann Z. Elumba, Executive Assistant to the Vice-President of the Student and Extension Affairs and Linkages Office of DMC College Foundation.
The P300 success story of Ms. Bernadette G. Manuel of Seon Kris Food Products of Surigao wowed the participants. Her zeal and determination to succeed motivated the participants to ask more about how she started and did well with her dried squid business. Ms. Manuel has touched the minds of the students to set up their own business even with just a little amount as their startup capital.
Ms. Maridel Dengal-Palpagan, Division Chief of the Business Development Division of the Department of Trade and Industry- Zamboanga del Norte also presented the Project Roving Academy and other opportunities of the youth to be funded by the government to start their own business.
“We are grateful to the organizers for bringing the University Business Clinics in DMC and in Dipolog City. We need more activities like this to continue to encourage our students and graduates to help in transforming our community by starting up with their own business.” said Dr. Dino Joey Cordova, Dean of Instructions of DMC College Foundation.
UBC is organized by SPARK! Philippines with funding from the U.S. Embassy Manila.
